Preparatory courses at Ulm University of Applied Sciences

Preparatory courses

This is where you can prepare for your personal course

It's easier to start your studies successfully if you know what's ahead - we'll show you how!Take advantage of the preparatory courses offered by the Ulm University of Applied Sciences.

To make the transition from school or career to university easier, you will receive training in important fundamentals of mathematics and engineering.Furthermore, you will learn to objectively assess your level of knowledge and update your training individually.A degree course is a process of gaining knowledge, which mostly takes place independently, with self-motivation and self-organization in parallel to lectures. The preparatory courses will help you become familiar with these ways of working and learning, and give you your first insights into the world of higher education.Depending on the degree program, you can expect subject-related insights into technical drawing, CAD, programming and much more.

Common start date for all preparatory courses: September 16, 2019

Find the meeting point, the exact start date and other important information about the preparatory course, your THU account, the Semester Ticket etc. in our Preparatory Course Flyer and below, under the relevant department. Plus, on your first day at the University of Applied Sciences our Preparatory Course Pilots at the Info-stand next to the Aula (Prittwitzstrasse Campus) will be ready and waiting to answer your questions.

To get help you ahead before the preparatory course and your course start, here are a couple of tips:

  • The mathematics course script for the preparatory courses offered by the Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering and Automotive Engineering, Production Engineering and Production Economics, and Mechatronics and Medical Engineering departments can be downloaded here.

To find out exactly what to expect on your course after the preparatory course, take a look at the module handbook and the course and examination regulations. You will find these under "Downloads" on the page for your course

Mathematics Entrance Test

The certificate needed for admission to the Mathematics I (Analysis) examination (a kind of digital pre-exam before the actual exam) is required for the degree programs DSM, FZ, IEW, IG, INF, MB, MC, MT, WI, WL and WF, in a 3-stage test procedure, the "Mathematics Entrance Test".It starts with Stage A. Stage B can only be taken after Stage A has been completed successfully.Stage C can be taken after Stage B has been completed successfully. This Mathematics Entrance Test examines the mathematical basics learned during secondary education. The preparatory course will prepare you for the test sufficiently and comprehensively. You will already be able to take the first test level (A) during the preparatory course. The other two levels will be made available to you after the semester starts.
