Inhalt
The course will be run with an interactive approach. All students will be required to make an active contribution to group discussions, presentations, negotiation practice and case studies. In addition to active participation in class activities and discussions, course assessment will be based on group and individual presentations and written assignments. The overall grade will be determined by a written exam including an essay and oral presentations.
Primarily, the learning outcomes will be reaches by dealing with the following topics: Business EnglishNegotiation and presentations at workAcademic essay writingBasic technical vocabulary: tools, shapes, dimensions, surfaces, partsMaterials technology: Describing and categorizing specific materials, describing properties, stress-strain diagram, testing machines and processes, quality issuesProduction and manufacturing processes: explaining different techniques and processes, describing positions of assembled componentsNew technologies: function and sustainability of different technologies and energies (e.g. hydroelectric power, wind power, solar energy, energy storage solutions)Car technology: combustion engines, hybrid engines, chargers etc.

Students understand longer, demanding academic texts, recognize implicit meaning and are able to resume the texts appropriately.Students can express themselves fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions. Students can use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes. They can produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organizational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices.Students are able to conduct research in the English language and to present their findings in English both orally and in writing. Thereby they practice preparing assignments according to academic standards. Students are able to present academic topics for an expert audience and answer questions. Students deal with complex topics in engineering and are able to discuss and defend their own position with appropriate language.
