Sustainability and the Environment

Inhalt

  • Concept of sustainability

  • Joint and individual responsibility

  • Material rights

  • Environmental Economics

  • Environmental Policies

  • Smart cities

  • Extinction of species, biological diversity

  • Plastic waste and pollution

  • Climate change

  • Environmentally friendly energy, goods and agricultural production and consumption

  • Typical English language structures, idioms, grammar, expressions (orally and in writing)

This seminar corresponds to level C1 of the Common European Framework.

Lernergebnisse

On successful completion of the seminar, participants will have:

Subject Competence

  • A deeper understanding of challenges, current and future problems and possible solutions that concern everybody in today's globalized environment.

  • Improved verbal and written skills in academic English.

Method Competence

  • use different kinds of presentation methods beyond ppt

  • an ability to see (technical) subjects and their consequences through the perspective of social science

  • practice peer-to-peer feedback and be aware of the benefits received

  • a detailed awareness of the world's numerous envoronmental challenges, problems and current solutions

  • an ability to understand a wider range of demanding texts

  • an ability to express themselves fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions

  • an ability to use the English language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes

  • an ability to produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organizational language patterns, connectors and cohesive devices

Interpersonal Skills

  • helping each other and profiting from fellow students' help in learning how to give and receive peer-to-peer feedback

  • greater ability and confidence to discuss in English and take part in teamwork

  • greater ability to use English in oral presentations and in preparing written comments and reports
