You want to experience the diversity of computer science in English? Not a problem with the degree programme Computer Science (CTS). The degree programme is aimed at both home and international applicants who wish their course to be taught in English. You may structure your programme individually, by selecting two focus topics in line with your interests.
The degree programme CTS is characterised by its focus on both modern methods for designing software systems and methods for designing processor-supported hardware. Particular consideration is given to aspects of modelling complex technical systems and model-driven software and system development.
In line with international practice for Bachelor's degree programmes, the programme can be completed in eight semesters. This gives you the latitude to pursue your own interests in-depth with a total of six elective courses as integral part of your programme. Furthermore, professional command of the German language is one of the fundamental outcomes of this programme, so there will be a German language module placed in each of the first three semesters.

You can apply for the degree programme CTS if you have an entrance qualification for a university of applied sciences, a subject-specific higher-education entrance qualification, a general qualification for university entrance or a comparable qualification. If you have a foreign certificate you need to have it validated by the Studienkolleg Konstanz
As the classes and examinations for this degree programme will take place in English, it is essential that you have sufficient command of the English language.
Preliminary practical experience is not required for this degree programme.
Furthermore, an important prerequisite for this degree programme - and your career later on - is a love for computers. You should be open to technical questions and able to think logically. It is not so important whether you have already worked with a computer or not. Of course it would help at the start, but it is much more important that you bring your own motivation.
Over a total of eight semesters, you will receive a thorough grounding in the mathematical principles and core subjects of computer science. These are supplemented by a large choice of electives for individual specialisation, as well as subjects in the fields of business and humanities.
From the third semester, you can set your individual focus topics by selecting two application areas of computing and with your elective modules. Comprehensive project work and a practical semester in a company (starting halfway through the 7th semester and lasting until halfway through the 8th semester) will ensure your course has practical relevance. The bachelor thesis follows directly after the practical semester. Modules do not have to be studied in parallel to the bachelor thesis, meaning you can concentrate on it fully. Doing the thesis at another location is no problem. After successful completion of this degree programme you will be awarded the academic degree title "Bachelor of Science"
As a computer scientist, you will be needed to design, analyse and, depending on the application conditions, adapt information processing systems in a qualified and responsible way. Later on, you will be able to take on research, development and project management tasks just as well as service and consultancy activities. You can find employment in institutes and companies specialising in data processing and computer technology (hardware and software), those providing IT services, or in consulting companies. However, due to the proliferation of technology, you will also be sought-after in the health sector or in administration.
The career prospects for Computer Science graduates are currently excellent and will remain so for the foreseeable future. The Cologne Institute for Economic Research reported in its "STEM spring report 2015", that the demand for workers in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) sector was more than a total of 47 per cent across Germany in April 2015. This particularly applies to the economic hub of Ulm, where numerous – also international – companies are located, such as the Daimler Research Centre, Siemens or Airbus Defence & Space. These are among the potential employers for graduates of computer science degree programmes. According to the study "JobTrends Deutschland 2015", carried out by the Staufenbiehl Institute, after business studies computer science is the most sought-after subject by companies. Since the same Staufenbiel study also discovered that one of the most in-demand additional qualifications for computer science is knowledge of English, the degree programme CTS makes you a very desirable candidate in the jobs market.
