Admission prerequisites

To be admitted to the Master CSE, you will need a Bachelor's qualification with above-average examination results in the degree programme CSE or in a degree programme with essentially the same content.

If you already have a Bachelor's degree in CSE from Ulm University of Applied Sciences, you do not need to make an application.

In this case, as soon as you have completed the Bachelor's course and have achieved the grades required for admission (Bachelor's final grade 1.0 - 2.5: immediate enrolment in the Master's degree programme; Bachelor's final grade 2.6 - 3.0 or Bachelor's thesis with an overall grade of 1.0 - 2.0: invitation to selection interview), simply go to the Office of the Registrar and make an application to change your degree programme.

Also admitted are specially qualified graduates of degree programmes in the fields of mathematics, IT, engineering and science (at a German or foreign university). Or those with an equivalently recognised qualification with the level of at least three years of study, with the scope and standard of knowledge and expertise equivalent to that gained in the Bachelor's degree programme CSE at the University and the Ulm University of Applied Sciences – and which complies with the subject requirements for the Master's degree programme.

A Bachelor qualification with an overall grade of 2.5 or better counts as having "above-average" examination results.

If you do not have a final degree qualification yet, by the application deadline you need examination results for your course of at least 140 credit points, with a credit-weighted average grade of 2.7 or better.

If you cannot fulfil these prerequisites, you will need to prove your suitability for the Master's degree programme in an admissions test, in the form of a successful selection interview.

Application deadline

The degree programme CEM is offered in both the winter and the summer semester.

Online enrolment is possible from 01.06. to 15.08. for the winter semester and from 1.12. to 15.2. for the summer semester. These are cut-off dates. That means applications which are received later will not be considered, even if missing the deadline was not your fault. Here it is the date which the application reaches the University which is important, and not the postmark.

Since your application can only be processed if all the documentation is complete and submitted by the deadline, you should apply early so that any questions arising can be clarified in time before the close of applications.

Necessary documents

  • Officially certified school certificate and first degree certificate (if you do not yet have a university qualification: submit your examination grades for the period up until your application, in the form of a subject and grade overview, with a preliminary average grade and the total number of credit points gained so far)

  • Data overview (summary of the data you entered in your online application)

  • Form for subject-specific additional information for the degree course you wish to apply for

  • If the academic qualification for the Master's degree programme you are applying for was not from a German-speaking organisation/degree course taught in German:

  • please submit a copy of the original certificates/qualification and a copy of the official translation into German or English, as well as a grading scale for the foreign university

  • For applicants from China, Mongolia, Vietnam: the original APS certificate

  • Evidence of sufficient German language knowledge

Please do not submit any original documents.

Admissions process

If you need to demonstrate your suitability for the Master's degree programme in a selection interview, you will receive a written invitation informing you of the exact date and time, as well as the location of the interview.

The interview will generally take place at the University or at the Ulm University of Applied Sciences, in the period from the end of August/start of September for the winter semester and the start of February for the summer semester.

After the interview, you will be evaluated on a grade scale from 1.0 to 4.0, according to your subject expertise and motivation for the Master's degree programme.

To be admitted to study, you must achieve a grade of at least 3.0.

Enrolment

If you are accepted to study, you will receive a written Notification of Admission giving you all the information you need about enrolment.

Please read the information carefully and adhere to the specified registration period.
