Do you enjoy designing things and are interested in technical systems?Then the degree program Digital Media (DM) will open up attractive and variety-filled career options for you.Developing games for the internet, producing videos and audio dramas, creating 3-D animations and virtual worlds – in this seven-semester degree program, you will learn all this in practical assignments in project and workshops.For more insight into the different projects you would be involved in as a Digital Media student, check out the Degree Program Showcase.


The Bachelor's degree program DM combines design, content and digital media technology in a very special way.The subjects studied range from design, communication science, media technology and programming, all the way through to telecommunications.This conscious interlinking of technical and creative disciplines is a special feature of the degree program, making you ready for the multimedia challenges of the future.After completing the course, you will not only be able to handle smaller projects by yourself in all phases, but you will also be able to act as an interface between creative staff and programmers in larger projects.


Please note: the application deadline for the suitability assessment (the successful participation in which is a prerequisite for admission to the degree program) ends on May 1, 2019.

​Prerequisites

You can apply for the degree program DM if you have an entrance qualification for a university of applied sciences, a subject-specific higher-education entrance qualification, a general qualification for university entrance or a comparable qualification.A pre-study internship is recommended, but is not essential for admission.However, successful completion of a special suitability assessment process (taking place in the spring) is a prerequisite.

Furthermore, the degree program DM requires particularly strong team-working skills, creativity in solving problems and communication skills.We are looking for multi-talented creative people who have a strong interest in technology.

Course schedule

In the basic study period, which comprises the first two semesters, you will be taught the fundamentals of design, media technology and programming.Further classes in publication, production and interactive systems will follow in the main study period during semesters 3, 4 and 6. These will be supplemented by classes on programming web applications and virtual spaces.The fifth semester is the practical semester, in which you will be working on commercial media projects in graphic design offices, audio/video studios or internet agencies.The course finishes after seven semesters with an application-oriented thesis.After completing this degree program you will be awarded the academic degree title Bachelor of Arts.​

As a DM graduate, you will be capable of working in all areas of designing digital media: content (conception), design (creative development), IT (technical implementation) and management (project coordination).The career opportunities for graduates of this degree program are, similarly to the varied course content, extremely diverse.For example, you could work in classic graphic design, in advertising, in internet/online/web agencies, in computer animation, in publishing, in editing, in audio and video production, in cultural institutions (e.g. museums) as well as in the IT departments of medium-sized and larger companies.


With its strong practical focus, the degree program DM is ideal preparation for starting your career, opening up excellent job opportunities for you.Fundamental theory is just as important for your career later on as practical ability.This includes knowledge about communication sciences, ergonomics and media technology, as well as the latest programming techniques and web technologies, plus your own creative development and conceptual abilities.You will learn all this in this degree program, in practical projects and workshops.​
