Admission prerequisites

A prerequisite for admission to the degree program SI is an above-average qualification in a technically-oriented degree: with a standard study period of at least three years and course content corresponding to at least 180 ECTS credit points – at a German university of applied sciences or a comparable foreign university. Furthermore, you should have sound knowledge and expertise: equivalent to that obtainable at Ulm University of Applied Sciences in the Bachelor's degree programs Communications Engineering, Industrial Electronics or Automotive Electronics. Other prerequisites are an excellent knowledge of German and above-average proficiency in English, as well as successful participation in a selection interview, where you must achieve a grade of at least 4.0.

If you are not able to provide complete evidence of the knowledge and expertise listed above before starting your studies on the Master's degree program, but (due to the quality of your first degree and the result of the selection interview) it is to be expected that you will be able to complete the degree program successfully, you may be admitted: on the condition that you acquire the missing knowledge within one semester at the latest.

Application deadline

The Master's degree program SI starts in the summer semester. You need to submit your application by June 1 for the Winter Semester and December 1 for the Summer Semester. These deadlines are cut-off dates. That means applications which are received later will not be considered, even if missing the deadline was not your fault. Since your application can only be processed if all the documentation is complete and submitted by the deadline, we recommend you apply early on, so that any questions arising can be clarified in time before the close of applications.

Required documentation

  • First degree certificate (simple copy)
  • If you do not yet have a certificate when you make your application, then submit a certificate for application for a Master's degree program and an up-to-date overview of your grades
  • Curriculum Vitae with no gaps, in tabular form with date and your signature
  • Letter of motivation, between one and two A4 pages
  • Residence permit (certified copy) for applicants from abroad
  • Foreign students: official recognition of your certificates from the Studienkolleg Konstanz/Center for International Students and a certificate of language proficiency
  • A self-addressed DIN A4 envelope with sufficient prepaid postage, if you wish us to return your documents.

Please do not submit any original documents with your application.

Admissions process

Based on the documentation submitted, the applicant will be invited to a face-to-face selection interview. The interview will take place in English, in the period between October 15 and November 1, at Ulm University of Applied Sciences. If you are selected for an interview, you will receive a written invitation informing you in advance of the exact date and time, as well as the location of the interview.

After the interview, you will be evaluated for the Master's degree program on a grade scale from 1.0 (best) to 5.0 (worst), according to your ability and attitude. To be admitted to study, you must achieve a grade of at least 4.0.

The number of available study places will be defined before the selection process takes place, by Ulm University of Applied Sciences in agreement with the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. If study places remain unfilled, applicants who took part in the selection interviews but were unsuccessful may subsequently be considered.
