Industrial Engineering

Bachelor of Engineering (B. Eng.)

To occupy interfaces and build bridges – this is the task of industrial engineers. As processes and flows are becoming more and more complex in companies, industry and service need skilled workers, who have technical expertise and at the same time can think from a business administration point of view. Due to its interdisciplinary orientation our studies in Industrial Engineering precisely cover these requirements.

Together with the University of Neu-Ulm we train you into holistically thinking all-rounders in seven semesters, who in the field of tension between business and technology form the link between the technical and commercial tasks of a company - two disciplines, which it is increasingly harder to clearly separate in the company and are to be allocated to different areas. The focus of the studies is placed on organisation and management processes in the field of production. The basic principles in engineering sciences are combined in a useful manner with business administration, legal and linguistic teaching contents.

You can also take this degree programme with the Ulm Model dual study programme or with in-depth practical experience.

Application

Prerequisites

You can study Industrial Engineering if you have acquired the advanced technical college certificate, the subject-related higher education entrance qualification or the general higher education entrance qualification or a comparable qualification. The willingness to acquire sound knowledge and know-how in the fields of natural sciences, engineering science as well as in economic and social sciences is moreover an important pre-requisite for the studies and the subsequent profession. The requirement mix in the fields of technology and business administration additionally requires you to be open-minded, flexible and creative in order to be able to take new paths.

Career prospects

This course of studies enables you to have attractive possibilities for assignment in various fields from industry to trade to service. As a graduate you can therefore work both in companies with industrial production as well as in the electrical industry, in logistics and software companies as well as in management consultancies. Your fields of assignment lie in particular at the interface between technology and business administration. The focus is placed on the planning and control in areas such as material management and production as well as in quality control, sales, safety and the environment.

This interdisciplinary status the natural and engineering sciences on the one hand and economics and law on the other hand is one of the excellent distinguishing features of the industrial engineering studies and gives you extraordinarily good professional prospects. According to the Association of German Industrial Engineers (VDW) a large share of the companies questioned in the professional profile examination of 2007 prefer to hire industrial engineers - also during times of crisis. Owing to the qualification and personality profile of the students the professional prospects are assessed very positive by the questioned personnel managers.
