Financing your studies and BAföG

The Students' Union student finance department is happy to advise you on the various options for financing your course, such as BAföG, the educational loan (Bildungskredit), the KfW student loan (Studienkredit), and provide information on scholarships. The staff there will explain the legal situation to you, help you fill out applications, and explain official letters.
To help you, there is a BAföG Live Chat in October on Wednesdays from 2 pm to 4 pm on the website bottom right (in the yellow chat bubble).
You can find out more about financing options under Financial assistance for students or directly from the Students' Union

Social advice and support

During your studies, questions and problems concerning life and learning can arise in all kinds of situations. Here the need for support can vary greatly. Sometimes you just need information, sometimes you need support and guidance in times of crisis.

The Ulm Students' Union (Studierendenwerk) is also able to support and advise you in particular social situations. For learning and exam nerves, or difficult personal situations, your first point of call should be the Psychosocial Support Center (PBS). The Students' Union is also able to offer free legal advice and mediation. The Students' Union also helps with childcare for students' children and provides suitable accommodation for single parents.
You can obtain all other information and contact partners directly from the Ulm Students' Union.

Student accommodation

Ulm Students' Union will help you find suitable accommodation. The Students' Union student halls of residence have different locations, layouts, sizes and rental costs. Appropriate accommodation is also offered for students with children and for students with disabilities. Since places in halls of residence are very popular, we recommend you apply for a place as early on as possible, using the online application form

The Students' Union will also help you if you are looking for a private flat or a room in a shared house. The housing referral service there is free for both private landlords and those seeking accommodation. You can find out more about living in Ulm under Accommodation and transport or directly from the Students' Union

On behalf of the students, the Students' Union negotiates the Semesterticket with the DING.

Accident insurance (covering your free-time, also abroad) and  cloakroom insurance are already included in the Students' Union fee.

As a charitable organization, the Students' Union does not aim to make a profit and is able to offer services at fair prices, providing optimum value for money. The Students' Union prioritizes the interests and needs of students when making its commercial and investment decisions. All services are provided based on high quality, hygiene and social standards.
