Suitability assessment

Information about the suitability assessment in the Digital Media degree program


The suitability assessment (EFV) is used to find out whether, in principle, you are suitable for the Digital Media degree program.You can only be admitted to the degree program Digital Media at Ulm University of Applied Sciences if you fulfill the necessary prerequisites for a degree course, and have participated successfully in the EFV.The EFV includes completing a package of tasks (homework) and sitting a written examination at the Ulm University of Applied Sciences.More detailed information on the EFV can be found in the Ulm University of Applied Sciences regulations for the suitability assessment and the selection process for the degree program Digital Media.


Please note that the suitability assessment for the degree program Digital Media only takes place once a year.The dates for the suitability assessment are issued/updated on this website at the end of January of the relevant year.


The suitability assessment process



​General remarks on the suitability assessment (EFV)

The grade from the suitability assessment process (suitability grade) is calculated based on the written test, which comprises the homework and the written examination.A candidate is deemed to be suitable if his or her suitability grade is 4.0 or better.If the overall grade is worse than 4.0, the candidate is deemed to be unsuitable for the degree program.The test examines skills and abilities specific to the degree program.

Registration to participate in the EFV

After you have registered on hochschulstart.de from April 16, 2019 and applied for the degree program Digital Media, we will send you a link and an access code via e-mail, which you can use to register for the suitability assessment and download the homework (package of tasks).

You must do this by the registration deadline on May 1, 2019 at the latest.

Package of tasks

After you have downloaded it and printed it out, complete the package of tasks at home.Bring this package of tasks with you to the written examination and submit it at the end of the examination with your written test paper.

Written examination

The written examination will take place on Saturday May 18, 2019 from 9 am to 2 pm, at the Ulm University of Applied Sciences – Böfingen campus, Eberhard-Finckh-Strasse 11. You can find directions and a map under Locations subheading "Directions to the Eberhard-Finkh-Strasse campus".

Important: as previously stated, you must submit the completed package of tasks on this date!


Please bring the following equipment with you to the written examination:


  • your valid identity card
  • 1 pair of scissors
  • 1 stick of glue (e.g. Prittstick)
  • 2-3 magazines with colorful pictures (e.g. Focus, Spiegel, Brigitte etc.)
  • 1 stapler (no paper clips!) to join together your package of tasks and written test paper
  • soft pencils
  • eraser
  • colored pencils
  • ballpoint pen
  • set square and protractor
  • plastic bag (for waste)
  • no (!) watercolors

Certificate of success/failure in the written test

The certificates with the written test results for the suitability assessment will be sent off by post from mid-June.If you failed the written test, you cannot be considered for a place on the degree program DM.If you failed the suitability assessment, you can repeat it only once.A successful suitability assessment is a requirement in order to be awarded a place on the Digital Media course.The suitability assessment remains valid, so you can also submit an application for the degree program in a later year.If you are applying for the degree program and already have a Notification of Suitability (Eignungsbescheid), please send us a copy of it with your Application for Admission.

Calculation of the suitability grade EFV

After evaluation of the homework and the written examination, the suitability grade will be determined according to the regulations mentioned above.The suitability grade forms part of the admissions grade. The admissions grade is a decisive factor in the admissions procedure if there are more applicants than study places.
