Medical Devices - Research and Development

To your desired degree program in three steps:

  1. Click on our application portal
  2. Select the degree program "Medical Devices - Research and Development"
  3. Fill out the Application for Admission, print it, sign it and send it with the required documentation by post to
    Technische Hochschule Ulm, Masterprogramm, Prittwitzstraße 10, 89075 Ulm.

Admission prerequisites

A prerequisite for admission to the degree program MMD is an above-average qualification in a technically-oriented degree: with a standard study period of at least three years  and course content corresponding to at least 180 ECTS credit points – at a German university or a comparable foreign university. 


Furthermore, you should have sound knowledge and expertise: equivalent to that obtainable at Ulm University of Applied Sciences (THU) in the Bachelor's degree program Medical Engineering.As a student on the Bachelor's degree program Mechatronics, you can obtain the required knowledge and expertise if, before finishing your course, you select and successfully complete the appropriate modules offered by the Bachelor's degree program Medical Engineering.


Other prerequisites are a good knowledge of German and English, as well as successful participation in a selection interview, where you must achieve a grade of at least "pass" (4.0).

Application deadline

The degree program MMD is offered in both the winter and the summer semester.You must submit your application by June 1 for the winter semester or December 1 for the summer semester.These are cut-off dates. That means applications which are received later will not be considered, even if missing the deadline was not your fault. Here it is the date which the application reaches the University of Applied Sciences which is important, and not the postmark.Since your application can only be processed if all the documentation is complete and submitted by the deadline, you should apply early so that any questions arising can be clarified in time before the close of applications.

Required documentation

  • Officially certified first degree certificate
  • If you do not yet have a qualification entitling you to undertake a Master's degree when you make your application, then submit a certificate for application for a Master's degree program and an up-to-date overview of your grades
  • Curriculum Vitae with no gaps, in tabular form with the date and your signature
  • Letter of motivation (between one and two A4 pages)
  • If applicable, certificates for any vocational training already undertaken
  • A self-addressed DIN C4 envelope (exercise book size) with sufficient prepaid postage, if you wish us to return your documents should your application be unsuccessful
  • Foreign students: official recognition of your certificates from the Studienkolleg Konstanz/Center for International Students and a certificate of language proficiency (DSH-2 or 3/TestDaF 4)

Please do not submit any original documents with your application.

Admissions process

You will receive a confirmation e-mail when your application has been received.The issuing of the study places will then be defined in a suitability assessment process, where suitable applicants must take part in a selection interview.The interview will generally take place at Ulm University of Applied Sciences, in the first three weeks after the application deadline.If you are selected for an interview, you will receive a written invitation informing you in advance of the exact date and time, as well as the location of the interview.


After the interview, you will be evaluated for the Master's degree program on a grade scale from 1.0 to 5.0, according to your ability and attitude.To be admitted to study, you must achieve a grade of at least 4.0.


The notifications of admission will be sent out by post around the first week of February for the summer semester and around the first week of August for the winter semester.The rejection letters generally follow one or two weeks later.If study places remain unfilled, applicants who took part in the selection interviews may subsequently be considered.

Enrollment

If you are accepted to study at Ulm University of Applied Sciences, you will receive a written Notification of Admission giving you all the information you need about enrollment.Please read the information carefully and adhere to the specified registration period.


To enroll at Ulm University of Applied Sciences you must send us the documents specified in the Notification of Admission, along with evidence that you have paid the administration fee and the fee for the Students' Union.Your enrollment will then be confirmed with a letter.
