On this page you will find answers to frequently asked questions about "How to use the library".

 

​How do I register to use the library?

Students at the Hochschule Ulm are registered with the library on their enrolment.

University staff must present their Hochschule Ulm ID card for registration; people not affiliated to the university of applied sciences must present their identity card.

People not affiliated to the Hochschule Ulm will be charged 10 EUR, with the exception of students from other universities.

What literature is in the library at the Hochschule Ulm?

We mainly have textbooks and journals in the fields of computing and engineering.

We also have some documentary films on DVD as well as a few daily newspapers. Using campus licenses, we have access to literature databases, eBooks and eJournals.

Our media are listed in the online catalogue.

For how long can I borrow media?

The lending period for books is generally four weeks and two weeks for magazines and data carriers.

These can be renewed multiple times, as long as they have not been reserved by someone else.

It is generally possible to borrow reference copies over the weekend.

​How can I see my library account?

You can see into your own library account in the online catalogue, using the [Mein Konto] button.

How can I extend my lending periods?

You can renew the items you have borrowed in the online catalogue, using the [Mein Konto] button.

 

You can do this up to 15 times if the items have not been reserved.

How can I reserve media which is currently on loan?

You can reserve media which is currently on loan in the online catalogue using the [Bestellen/Vormerken] button.

 

You will receive an automated e-mail notification as soon as it is ready.

How can I read eBooks and eJournals?

All the eBooks and eJournals licensed by us are listed and linked in the online catalogue.

These are directly accessible on campus.

Outside the campus, those affiliated to the university of applied sciences have access via VPN or Shibboleth.

Where do I find the literature databases?

All the literature databases licensed by us – as well as numerous free literature databases – can be accessed via the DBIS portal.

The databases requiring a license may only be used within the university's network.

Where can I find DIN standards?

DIN standards and VDI guidelines are stored in the Perinorm database.

This can be accessed using the DBIS portal.​
